Lead with the why
The best PRDs open with the problem, the user, and the outcome you are trying to move — not with a feature spec. If the team understands why they are building something and for whom, they make better decisions about the how.
State the goal and, just as importantly, the non-goals, so scope is unambiguous from the start.
Describe what, not how
Good requirements say what must be true, not how to implement it — that is the engineers' domain. And they surface open questions honestly rather than hiding them, so the team can resolve ambiguity early.
Short and clear beats long and comprehensive every time. A one-page PRD that gets read beats a twenty-page one that does not.
